What would help is if the Process check within servers Alive worked with win 9x boxes. I am not a programmer but I know there are several programs out there that can see the processes on a win9x box including (the pstools suite from www.sysinternals.com, and process explorer also from sysinternals). I would think it would be possible to build this into Servers Alive relatively easily. :-)

I have been given a "challenge" with a check. I hope that someone can give some guidance on how to approach this. I think I'm looking at writing my first COMCHECK. Here's the info: Machine to be checked is a W98 box. The process in question is started with a batch file. The process is scheduled to run at x:00, x:15, x:30, x:45, with a different but similar process starting at x:25. The process now copies a file into a normally empty folder as it's first step. The process deletes this file as it's last step. The process then shuts down. The process can take as long as 5 or 6 minutes. My SA testing cycles are on a 5 minute schedule. Currently I check for the file count of the folder, and issue an alert when 2x down. Due to the runtime of the process, the check occasionally shows as down, but the alerts seem to be functioning correctly. Due to custom web pages that are used as a front end monitoring tool for corporate management that feed from the interchange file directly, they will show a false down when the process is running and the check happens as it's first down. What I think I want to do is be able to check for the existence of the file, check it's modify date against now() and have the following : File doesn't exist = UP File younger than 5 minutes = UP File older than 5 minutes = DOWN Also, I do recognize that the SA Server and this W98 box need to have their clocks synchronized OR Does anyone have a slick way to have SA monitor a running program on W98?
