To be
honest you're "using" a bug of SA :-)
Normaly what should happen is that IF you configure authentication to be
used before doing a shutdown, is that SA tries to authenticated and IF this
fails it should NOT do the shutdown. And due to a bug in teh current SA it
still tries to do the shutdown and since the user running SA has enough rights
on the remote system SA is still able to do the shutdown.
Once
the bug fixed (and that's now, but it's not yet on the beta site), it will not
even try the shutdown if the authentication fails, kind of the same way as with
the normal NT based checks.
