Thanks that explains a lot.  Since most of my applications communicate with this server thru ICMP I’ll set up a ping monitor event.

Another Quick question:  I thought I saw a message indicating not to use terminal services sessions to run SA likely due to the possibility that the session can get closed and SA will stop monitoring at that point?  Is that correct?

Can I use PC Anywhere or VNC or any other Remote console viewer to manage SA?

Ping is using the ICMP protocol.

Diskspace a netbios protocol.

It can well be that the system no longer responds to ICMP requests while it still responds to netbios requests (or that icmp is blocked on a different level <- router/firewall/...)

Dirk.

Subject: [SA-list] SA get Disk Drive Space but can't ping server

Hello, I set up SA to monitor the drive space on one of my servers and SA seems to be reporting accurately.

Although one of my drive space monitored servers fails to respond to Pings.  For my purposes this server is down.

Question:  How is servers alive still able to monitor the drive space even though the server can’t respond to Pings?

-Thanks

-Tom
