Try reading the beginners guide, that should give you enough to start with and develop a better understanding o what RRDtool is, then move on to the RRD tutorial.
Both are excellent documents and I'm sure everyone on the list will be more than happy to help answer any questions you have re: RRDtool when you've RTFM.
