What I do via our production scheduleing software (AutoMate) is trigger an "Overnight" report through MS Access that gets emailed to the IS Staff every morning at 8:00am. There is also a "weekend" report for Monday am. This way we get a recap of all the status changes from 5:00pm the previous day (or 3 days prior for the Monday report) to when the report is run at 8. We also do an executive weekly recap for the Monday AM meetings.
Perhaps in V6 an option would be to put this kind of functionlity into SA directly. It could be an extension of the built in HTML output, that not only gets written to a file, but then also is emailed. You could add an option in each test for weather or not it should be included on the recap reports, just like is done now for inclusion on HTML pages. Then at 8:01pm (first check after 8pm) the WHEN part of alert (2) is evaluated and gives a false (being don't do this alert), so we're not even checking the schedule. Could it be this condition?
