I monitor "outside the firewall" the internet visible devices for several dozen companies. Essentially, routers, web servers, firewalls, etc...and I have them all nicely arranged on my SA console, each company in it's own sub-group, so that I can establish alert dependencies within a company.
I have a recurring problem, and that is that my internet access bounces at least twice a day...dropping and re-establishing itself within a couple of minutes. Normally not much of a problem, unless it is during a check cycle, and then I get several dozen alerts that all the remote devices have gone down. I tried setting dependencies for the remote routers, i.e....all remote routers are dependent upon My internet access, but when I do, that removes them from the groups and sub-groups they are in, and puts them all in the same group as my company network. I thought of putting a check for my router in each sub-group, and making them dependent upon that, but that adds 38 checks to my schema, and it already takes two minutes to just do all the checks, and I am on a three minute cycle. Is there a way to make a sub-group or group dependent upon an individual check? So basically, if my internet is down, all the other checks don't alert?...If not, is there a way to add this as a feature?
