I see what you mean now. I'll add this to our "to look at" list, but don't expect this in v5, it will be more something for v5.x (if we do it).
You mean a shutdown only and not a shutdown-and-restart as we have now? Let's say, hypothetically, that when the mailservers ups goes on battery I want to shut it down gracefully. I do an SNMP check with an alert that does a server shutdown. Then someone says, "Hey, can't you notify people that you're sutting down the mail server?". So now I want to add a winpopup to that person that occurs before the shutdown. Assuming I want them to fire in the same cycle, I have to remove the shutdown alert, add the winpopup then add the shutdown again. Whereas, it would be easier if I could just add the winpopup and then move it up or using an ID system give the winpopup an ID of 1 and the shutdown an ID of 2. Please bear in mind that this is a very simplistic example and I know that in this specific scenario you could do things a little differently. However, I am looking at a check that on down fires off 20 different alerts. When it comes to shutting down different servers it is important that services are stopped and boxes shutdown in the correct sequence. Does that make more sense? While we're on the subject. Would you guys be able to add a Shutdown NT/Win2K Server to the Execute Command options? Or maybe just modify the Reboot option to allow you to specify "Only stop" like on the Re/start NT/Win2K Service settings? Dirk. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Alistair Francis Sent: Monday, September 20, 2004 4:14 PM To: Servers Alive Subject: [SA-list] Wishlist - Alerts Hi, I guess that the alerts on any given check are performed in some kind of sequence. I assume that this is the listed order (excluding the settings for specified cycles)? If so, would it be possible, in some future release, to have the facility to move alerts up and down the list or possibly to assign them a sequence ID? That would be blinding! I'm setting up a check based on a ups falling over and have a long list of alerts to perform (sending messages stopping apps & services etc). At the moment, if someone says to me they need something added near the beginning of the alert sequence, I have to delete all the entries that will come after the new one and then add them again! (Major pain in the bum!). Unless there is already some nifty way of doing this that I don't know about?
