I found a work-around for this issue, but I'd be glad to ondo that and help you out Dirk.... I should be able to reproduce it, almost at will.

Some people had apparently a problem with a COM check sometimes hanging and
causing Servers Alive to stop working while the COM check was hanging.
We're looking for somebody who can reproduce that problem...we "think" that
we have a solution for it, but as long as we can't reproduce such a hanging
COM it's difficult to be sure....
