In v5 the URL check will be done differently, so if it's the URL check causing the STACK SPACE error, then I think we can only focus on it if it's reproducable in v5.

The automation error isn't a real error we can do much about.  Within the OS, DLL/OCX/.. are registered.  An application (like Servers Alive) asks the OS for a handle to the DLL/OCX/... and if the OS says "No way" then you get the automation error.  Only thing we can do is trap the error and "display" it.

Subject: RE: [SA-list] Error: Run-time error '28': Out of stack space

Dirk,

I was finally able to get a screen shot of the Servers Alive GUI when the error popup appears, the status bar at the bottom of the screen is as follows

Checks done every 3 minutes     Next check 6:58:27AM   Checking ‘Pretty Display Name (This is a URL)’ (timeout: 5) SK

As far as I am able to tell, it is not always the checking the same URL when the popup appears.

Another error that I receive on regular bases is false-positive for status check on logging in to a MS SQL Server 2k on a MS Windows 2k3 OS, ‘Automation error’.  Sometimes it is able to connect and sometimes it is not but the databases are functioning correctly.  I must not that the MS SQL Server check on a MS Windows 2k OS works fine and to this day, I am yet to receive a false-positive.  Is this a know problem that will be fix with version 5?

Virgilio Almeida

The GUI will realy show the last thing, the log (due to OS caching the write process) doesn't show the last thing that was done.

I did not have the GUI was not visible on the screen at the times buts when I took a look at the logfile, the last things that are entered prior to Servers Alive becoming unresponsive are as follows

Tuesday, December 07, 2004 6:59:23 AM URL check (http://’Fulling qualified URL’) gave HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Tuesday, December 07, 2004 6:59:23 AM URL check took  1547 ms

Tuesday, December 07, 2004 6:59:23 AM URL check (http://’Fulling qualified URL’)

Tuesday, December 14, 2004 7:00:14 AM URL check (http://’Fulling qualified URL’) gave HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Saturday, December 18, 2004 6:32:05 AM URL check (http://’Fulling qualified URL’) gave HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Saturday, December 18, 2004 6:32:05 AM URL check took  94 ms

Saturday, December 18, 2004 6:32:06 AM URL check (http://’Fulling quail

**Note: part of the URL is missing and that is how it was entered into the logfile**

Friday, December 24, 2004 6:56:36 AM URL check (http://’Fulling qualified URL’) gave HTTP/1.1 200 OK

Friday, December 24, 2004 6:5

Wednesday, December 29, 2004 6:57:07 AM URL check (http://’Fulling qualified URL’) gave HTTP/1.1 200 OK

In each case, the URL being checking are different.  Is this equivalent to having the GUI visible or do you still require it visible?

We need to know what it's doing just before getting this error, so it should be good to be able to see the GUI.
