OK ... I'm still confused. :-(
 
I'm running SA (on a domain controller, BTW - Win2K domain). I want SA to monitor services running on other services. I've done this, and it's working as I wish. So now I'd like SA to run as a service, and start automatically, when the server starts.
 
I logged in as domain admin, and changed the "ServersAlive" service to start automatically. I told it to use "Local System" acct, and allow it to interact with the desktop, and I start the service. However, one of my checks fails, with this error:

The service I want to monitor is called "ClaimsImagingService"; server name is "mti". If I run SA interactively (i.e., not as a service, and making no changes to my SA config), it is able to check fine.
 
It was suggested to me to create a special domain acct, and run the SA service as that new acct. And so I did, and granted that domain acct rights to log on as a service. And so SA says starts - it shows up in the server process list - but shows no icon; no way to see what's going on. And no entry in the log, to say that it started.
 
If I double click the desktop icon, I get the monitor screen .. and 2 instances of SA in the server process list.
 
So what am I doing wrong?

We created a special account for Servers Alive.  Added that account to Group with admin privileges on all servers.
 
We use that account for authentication on all checks that require it.

I'm using SA 4.1.1609, on a Windows 2000 server. I logged in as the domain administrator; set up SA to monitor a couple of services on other servers. This works fine, and checks the services in question.

Now, however, I want to run SA as a service. I set it to start automatically, and it does that fine. I made no changes to my SA config. However, it can't access the services on the remote servers. I presume this is because the service runs a Local System Account, and not as the administrator account I used to set up the checks. Correct?

I can probably set the service to login as that administator account, but I'd prefer not to. Is there a way to have SA run as a Local System Account, and still be able to check remote services? Or is there some other to accomplish this, besides setting the service to run as the domain admin acct?
