I had a similar situation and posted a message a few days ago. Check to see
if your Remote Registry service is enabled and running. Ours was disabled
for security reasons; enabling and starting it fixed the problem.

Subject: [SA-list] ERR: 53 Checking Services on Local Machine

Hi All,

I am running Servers Alive checks against our web servers on an application
server which serves the web servers. As a security measure NetBios has been
turned off on these servers. On checks of the reote server, an error is
returned:
1722 The RPC server is unavailable.
The checks on the local machine though return ERR: 53 The network path was
not found. I have tried using different addesses eg 127.0.0.1, 192.168.1.3
etc

I am not so worried about the remote servers but would like to be able to
check the local machine as all the checks are process and service related

I there any way to resolve this without any additional services/protocols
being installed?
