Thanks. I use "Remote Desktops" which is part of the Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack (link below). I use it to connect to WIN2K and Windows 2003 machines. It allows you to connect to the console session of a machine just by checking a box. I am not sure if it is officially blessed by Dirk. I think that VNC and PCAnywhere are. We will know after he reads this post. ;-) At any rate, I have been using this app to manage SA on remote machines without issue. Even if you don't use it for SA machines, if you admin a lot of Windows boxes you should check out this free app. It allows you to connect to multiple machines simultaneously through a single interface/window. Once it's set up and populated it's a HUGE time saver.
Note I am running this app on Windows XP Pro SP2. Please review the system reqs, etc. before installing. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c16ae515-c8f4-4 7ef-a1e4-a8dcbacff8e3&DisplayLang=en David -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Stephen Ryan Sent: Friday, March 18, 2005 5:29 AM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [SA-list] SA Service Unexpectedly Terminating - RDP & the console You probably know this, but you can reach the 2003 "machine" session via RDP as well, with the latest TS client. Use the syntax; <computername> /console in the server to connect to dialog. You need the version of MSTSC.EXE (and mstscax.dll) that come with 2003, maybe the XP one works, I'm not sure. Then I guess you could disconnect kvm for a little more physical security? //Steve -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of David Webster Sent: den 17 mars 2005 23:16 To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [SA-list] SA Service Unexpectedly Terminating I recently corrected a similar issue on two Win2003 servers. The fix was to set the SA service to run as system* with desktop interaction. All of this has to be done on the machine, not a terminal services session, and then the service needs to be started while sitting at the machine. Then I lock the server rather than log out. ...
