The .LOg files are the logfile of Servers Alive.
Make sure that maximum logging is enabled (push apply to be sure) and then test again.  It should at least show in the log that it's sending.  And if there is NO error then it means that from a "client" (Servers Alive) point of view the mail was send and that the server did receive it.

Dirk,
Could you point out what set of log files might show this? I'm looking at log files in this path "\\server\c$\program files\salive\*.log", but I do not see any event logs, even after retesting SMTP primary and alternate emails, that show Send errors.  Thanks.

And does the log show that they are send or tried?

Subject: [SA-list] SA Alerts Not Being Sent Regularly

Hi,
Could anyone please provide some additional ideas as to why I'm having problems getting notifications being sent regularly by SA?  I can confirm that I do get error events.  The SMTP relay server is fine. Exchange 2003 is fine. The SA checks are set up correctly and even when I do a test email for both Primary and Alternate SMTP setups, they are received.  I have over 300 checks for multiple servers, could this be a factor?  Any feedback would be appreciated.  Thank you.
