Yes and no.
The actual page is what IE gets and then renders to what you see.  If you get such a page, look at the "page source" and you'll see that it contains more then what you see.  It contains several HTML tags too.

This all sounds correct.  So on the http check (if it gets a 500) I could create a new alert that states when the extra info field contains "error on line 10" (obviously I would have an actual error message verbatim) then send email and another to reboot the server.

I assume the actual content of the page is what I see when I turn off friendly http error messages in IE.

OK let's talk a bit more on this;

You do a check of

and you want the sentence "Welcome to our company" to be on it.

=> that's something you can already do.

Now if that page does NOT give a 200 code (200 meaning that the page can successfully be retrieved by the webclient), then SA just gives you the down.
So in your "case" a code '500 internal server error' would indeed generate a down.

Now from what I understand you want to have a different alert based on the actual content of the page, in case of an error, correct?

So would it help if the ALERT-WHEN tab, the option "When down the "Extra info field" " option would also check the actual content of the page?  Were in the page you could get more info.  BUT do remember that IIS sends that page back with a huge amount of html formatting (huge compared to the actual info that is!).

I just want to be able to create an alert that will reboot my server when the error occurs.  So whether it uses the existing http check and the additional info paramater or whatever I guess I don't care so long as I can create an alert from that particular text.

I understand WHAT info, but HOW do you want to get that in SA?

Subject: Re: [SA-list] "500 Internal Server Error"

I was hoping to get the precise odbc 0x80000045 er whatever on line 10.  That is how I know that I must reboot the server in order to fix it.  I figured if I can see this error in IE you must be able to get it in Salive.  I obviously know very little about the details of how IIS servers the error and how IE retrieves it.  If this is not possible, I can certainly continue to do things the way I do now and reboot manually. The error occurs maybe once a month (although lately it has been even less often).

Adding a checkbox is not a problem.
However this won't help that much.

The "500 internal server error" is the error that we get in the header, not
within the page.
The page itself contains some info (like the ODBC connection...) BUT also a
lot of scripting (at least that's how IIS sends it back), so what should we
do with that?
The %e parameter will show the "500 error".

I'm not sure what exactly you're expecting from that "checkbox"

Subject: Re: [SA-list] "500 Internal Server Error"

Can you make a check box just like IE has to use friendly http error
messages (500 internal server error) or not (Microsoft Odbc Connection
blah blah blah)?

Salive is such a great product I guess I am just spoiled by not having
to jump in and fix any glitches. The only time we need manual
intervention is if some tech screwed something up by manual
intervention. Or of course in the event of a complete server meltdown
(hardware problem or hard drive crash/corruption). Thanks to Server's
Alive I do not have to run into the office (or VPN) at 10:00 at night to
fix errors. This is truly a great product and if this one item remains
unchanged I guess I can live with having to fix one problem manually.

Thank you in advance for your consideration however.

No this can be done.
When we request a page from a webserver we get the status back (200 OK, 404
Page not Found , 500 Internal Server Error). When it's NOT "200 OK" we
won't check the content of that page. And what you're looking for is
probably within the page that is received.

Subject: [SA-list] "500 Internal Server Error"

I have a wish for Server's Alive. I have a web page that occasionally
cannot communicate with my ODBC connection. The connection works and
when I test it within server's alive using the comODBC add on everything
works. The only solution I have is to reboot the server. The problem
is it returns a 500 internal server error. If I turn off friendly http
error messages in Internet Explorer I am able to distinguish between
someone having the database locked or a corrupt database or the odbc
connection going down. Not all Internal Server Error 500 errors require
a reboot. So Is there any way you can show me the non-friendly http
error message so that I can reboot the server at the appropriate time by
looking at the additional info field.

If I can do it manually I know you can do it programatically. Thank
you for your consideration of the issue.
