I would do 2 things:
        * upgrade to 5.0.1748 of Servers Alive
(http://www.woodstone.nu/salive/download.asp) (or the latest beta from
http://beta.woodstone.nu/soft/salive51.exe)
        * upgrade SMTP2POP3 to the latest build that is on
http://www.woodstone.nu/salive/addons.asp

Subject: [SA-list] SMTP2POP3 check error

Hello,

I have been running the SMTP2POP3 for about a week in a test
environment. (limited to ten checks, v5.0.1675) I have two checks. The
first does the SMTP and the second does the POP3. The checks run fine
for a while and then I get a down on both. The downs are false. Here
is the log:

Tuesday, August 02, 2005 2:18:17 PM Mailflow WAI03->WAI01 SMTP
Tuesday, August 02, 2005 2:18:17 PM External COM check started

Tuesday, August 02, 2005 2:18:17 PM Sending email message (Mailflow
WAI03->WAI01 SMTP is DOWN)
Tuesday, August 02, 2005 2:18:18 PM Mailflow WAI03->WAI01  POP3
Tuesday, August 02, 2005 2:18:18 PM External COM check started

Tuesday, August 02, 2005 2:18:18 PM External COM check
(W00000008,24):ERR POP3:Out of memory
Tuesday, August 02, 2005 2:18:18 PM Sending email message (Mailflow
WAI03->WAI01  POP3 is DOWN)
Tuesday, August 02, 2005 2:18:18 PM Web page generation Default page

I have a couple other checks, a few pings, and a few file date/time
checks via an add-on. These all continue to function properly.

SA is running on Windows XP pro sp2. The POP3 server is win2003,
exchange 2003 sp1. The smtp server is running windows 2000 server and
using the built-in smtp server in IIS.

Is this a known issue?

Apologies if this has been covered. I looked in the archive but did not
see a fix.

Thanks.

David
