We
monitor diskspace on all servers (though the checks only run every 4 cycles),
RPC service on all servers, then application specific for the other servers
(things like Exchange, SQL, Backup, etc). We check performance monitor counters
for Exchange queues, external COMs for SMTP mail, event log checks (specifically
for checking when clusters have failed over to the secondary node and things
like that), file date change COM to see if a particular file has been updated.
We used to ping everything first, then found it was just as easy (and quicker)
to check that the RPC service is running and have other checks dependant on
that. We also run checks for seeing if routers are up. We are yet to look in to
SMNP but once I get the chance to sit down and go through it then we are
planning on implementing that to compliment HP's insight
manager.

Subject: [SA-list] What's all being monitored...In regards to services, process, disk space, etc on your servers, what are some of the things being monitored using Servers Alive? I'm guessing Ping and DNS are the default, especially for domain controllers, and SMTP for the mail servers, but what else? Anyone bothering to monitor disk space and/or processes etc?Any responses are appreciated.
