your terminology is reversed. reverse lookups are ip addresses to host names. query for a PTR record for the ip address.

A couple of further questions based on this.1) I want to perform a forward lookup (IPv4 address to hostname) - what defined DNS record type would I want to query? I can't seem to find a record type which returns a result.2) I want to perform a reverse lookup (fully qualified hostname to IPv4 address) - I want to query the "A" record type, correct? Testing has proven this to be accurate in my setup, but just wanted to verify.

There is a DNS check. You can customize what it should query for by doing a CTRL-P from within the main (tree) interface of SA.Dirk.

We are having sporadic application performance issues around our company and one common theme is name resolution. I was thinking if I could utilize SA to check forward and reverse lookup results, we may (or may not) be able to "point the finger" at DNS.=
