A little follow-up on this one...

Just installed the September Technology preview and Servers Alive was able to use the DMO libs provided with it and check a SQL 2005 server. The libs are recongnized as being SQL7/2000.

just did a little research on it and:

 

From MS:

"You can still use SQL Server 2005 with SQL-DMO"

 

Also SMO is aspecialy for the .NET framework, while SA does NOT use the .NET framework.

 

 

What we will however do is take a look at it to see if it offers better options then DMO for the type of SQL checks that SA can curently do.  And if it does (and it works without the .NET framework) then we will probably use it at some point.

With SQL 2005 SQL DMO has been replaced with SMO.
