>From a source code point of view the authentication is 100% identical on v4 and v5. And the NT service check as such (part without the authentication) is almost identical, the change is in the length of service names we can "accept" (more in v5 then in v4). So I doubt that the time difference you see is related to upgrading to v5. I think it will be more related to applying an OS service pack.

I found that the NT service checks take a lot longer on version 5 than they did on version 4. From what I was able to figure out, it is taking about 20 seconds just to authenticate to the server - for each check. I got around this by changing from using Servers Alive as a service (Local System account) to running it as a normal application with the logged in user being the same as an account on the remote systems. I still have a few NT service checks on remote systems where I don't have this account created that run slow, but the majority of my NT checks are MUCH faster.
