One of the ideas for v6 is that for certain check type
(diskspace - perfmon - ...) we will have statusses. One being down (as
it's now) and a "warning" (name could still change) level.
And then you could do something like
diskspace check \\server\c$ down
when free space < 250MB
warning
when free space <1gb
and then for the actual alert
(one should be enough for both statusses) you can define if it a DOWN alert or
a DOWN/WARNING or a WARNING alert and within the alert message itself you can
then use the %s (status) and see if it's a warning or a
down.
But as said it's
an IDEA for v6....
Dirk.
I
take it there is no way to define said rules for certain alerts within SA in
this version.
Z
Just a dropdown wouldn't help as you need to be able to
define "rules" per "type" (minor/major/critical)
Dirk.
Dirk,
Lets take the disk space scenario, regular file server.
IF
Diskspace <5GB, Alert is minor
IF
Diskspace <3GB, Alert is major
IF
Diskspace <1GB, Alert is critical
I
know I could make 3 seperate alerts and then put minor, major and critcal in
the wording, but a quick to define variable in SA, or a dropdown box in the
alert field or check field would be the ideal situation.
I
hope that helps,
EZ
Let's use your diskspace as an
example.
In your request is this entry always "critical" when
down? Or does the level depend on the free space?
Dirk.
To the list,
While I am currently configuring SA to do monitoring of my
systems I have been asked if the alerts and the emails that it sends to
my ops and administrators can be customized so that say that Diskspace
below 1G on a drive would be labeled as Critical. ( I dont see it in the
interface where you can label an alert is like critical, minor, major,
info etc etc) I know I could put this in the text of the email to the
administrators, to show them what is critical and what isnt, it just
woul dbe nice if you could put in a defined variable in the message
field (defined somewhere within SA) that would tag the alert as
critical, minor, major or otherwise)
If anyone has done this or found out a good way via the software
accomplish this, I would be greatful for the insight.
As always, a great product absolutely loving the information I am
getting from it already....
