some phones need extra drives to work properly. the www.winsms.com FAQ may help you find a suitable model.

Yes, you got it right.

You need a SMS capable phone and a plan.

But that is just the beginning. I've got the phone, the plan and the cable,
but the phone, a Sony P800, will not accept any +C commands.

I'm still researching.

I am a total novice so I have to ask, the nokia has to be getting service from a local cellular provider correct? Once I find a phone and cable I have to contact a cellular company that will allow that type of  phone and find a rate plan that allows text messaging, correct? If I have Cingular service does the unit I hook up to the server have to be Cingular as well? Any urls to info about this whole SMS thing ;-)

Thanks!

I used to use winsms. It worked well.

However I now use the sms feature in SA. One less thing to go wrong.

I have a nokia 7110 phone (£20 off ebay) with a serial cable that cost about £5
