This is a trace from ethereal... I can see that it finds the server (smtpin.livemail.co.uk) sends a EHLO to my server (dsvr001885) then gets passed to the other mail server (250-smtpin73.livemail.co.uk) then AUTH_LOGIN then the error.
Thanks for your help on this. In outlook you would 'use the same settings as my incoming mail server'. Still no joy I am afraid , even if i remove the username and password. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dirk Bulinckx" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Servers Alive Discussion List" <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, February 15, 2006 1:15 PM Subject: [SA-list] RE: [SA-list] Telnet port 110 By giving a username/password in the SMTP part you're basicly saying that your SMTP server needs authentication. Is that the case? If not then the username/password part in the SMTP part of the screen should not be entered. Increase the timeout of that entry. I have turned on logging and get the following error : Wednesday, February 15, 2006 10:11:23 AM External COM check (W00000008,1):ERR: didn't stop within the given timeout I am not sure what is mis-configured. I have tried resolving the mail server via IP and mail.domainname and it fails, however if i telnet i can log into the mailbox. Any ideas? This will send a mail to a pop3 mailbox then check if the mail was actually received.
