My suggestion would be to use the enterprise version and specify a
route.  (someone correct if I am wrong since I don't use the feature).  
With that you should be able to force the SA system to dial-up to the
pool and do a ping or a web check or anything using the route over the
dial-up modem.    Hopefully someone with more knowledge on this subject
will correct any mistakes I have made.
