How about this as a cunning plan. Run a second copy of SA (the <10 check free version) on another machine, and use it to check the first machine. If the check fails, send an alert from the second machine to warn you, and also send a command to restart (or maybe shut down?) the primary machine (before the primary starts sending hundreds of alerts). Of course the second machine may fail, but if it can't check the first across the network neither can it shut it down!
Do you think that might fly?

No that can''t be done.
We can only know that 30% fails (using your example) once we already did 30% of the checks. And then the alerts for those 30% were already send.
What is possible in an "extra" alert in the case of 30% (or more) being down, and this can be configured via the setup - alerts - executive alerts. The executive alerts are checked at the end of the cycle only.

I am using SNPP to notify support personnel when a system's checks fail.
I am going to build another SA system for a new facility with a dedicated paging server.
The catch is that the new configuration won't have the SA system separated from the paging server by the LAN, they will be attached with a crossover Ethernet cable on second NIC ports so the pages should never fail.
So here's my questionâ¦
What if all LAN based checks fail (ping, NT services, etc.)? (i.e. because the SA host's primary nic / cable / switch port fails) The redundant network connection to the paging server will likely ensure that everyone will be paged because everything is down.
Can I tune something in SA to not take action or take a custom action if say 30% or more of the checks fail? ( I would rather send one page to myself saying ⦠"Hey, most of the checks have failed. The ServersAlive host may be wigging out!" )
