Whilst I'm in a suggesting mood, and at the risk of sounding like I'm telling Dirk how to manage his development...
Something I've seen elsewhere which worked really well was a page on a product's with an "official" wishlist. Every time someone mailed the developer with a suggestion or request, he would add it to this wishlist together with a status comment, and the list was then grouped by several categories such as "Already in place", "Under development", "Might work on it at some point", "Rejected because...". Obviously this is a little extra bit of information for the developer to maintain, but the advantages of this are several:
- Developer has a clear list to refer to
- Customers don't repeatedly ask for the same thing as others have already asked for
- Customer don't have to keep asking what's happening about something
- Prospective customers can see that development is ongoing
Here's one example of this type of thing:
http://www.theill.com/conquercam/wishlist.asp
(although that example doesn't have "rejected" which is actually a really useful category)
As ever, just a thought!
