A few things, in no particular order:
One - is the XP Firewall on?
Two - are the machines on a domain, or in a workgroup?
Three - if in a workgroup, how is file sharing enabled?
Four - can you use either the XP command TASKLIST or the Sysinternals tools
PSLIST to generate a process list from another machine?
Five - can you generate a SHARE list or map a drive on another machine that
is hosted ON your target machine?
