On a side note to Dirk, is there any way you can have SA do the following: 
 
when started as an app, check to see if the service is running, if so change 
some aspect of the GUI to show this. 
when started as a service, check to see if the process is running, if so throw 
a msgbox alert showing this 
 
It seem that there's an inordinate amount of confusion regarding the potential 
conflict of running both, and maybe a visual hint will help users along.
