We're currently doing some tests to see if using a db wouldn't slow-down Servers
Alive.
But in order to do those test correctly it's important to know what database YOU
would use (if you would have a choice) and if that database would be running on
the same system as Servers Alive or on a remote system.

The db that we would use as standard would be sqlite (file based system), but we
would offer native support for mysql, mssql, Oracle, Sybase, db2, Interbase,
Informix, PostgreSQL and ofcourse ODB.  I guess that should cover about
"everything" :-)


The first test shows that with 2500 checks defined (for the test all are pings)
getting all the data from the db (for the checks) takes about 4 seconds on a
local sqlite database (when using a good index) or 45 seconds when not using an
index.  SO it's clear that the index is, as all dba's know, very important.
