Do you have the db files?
If you dump them before and after a check cycle do you get a difference in the
dumps? If so then the db files are already updated.

Then check if the graphs are generated if you manualy execute the graph script
(or is that one maybe empty?)

Yes, I followed all these steps. Ran the scripts and appended, as the
instructions stated. I do have a degree of logging happening on the website
this process creates, but there are no graphs. Yes, I did go into each entry,
and select the logging options, and generated the create and graph scripts
there as well.

I have one graph that was generated. It is for a new entry I made in Servers
Alive AFTER I upgraded to the beta version. However, other new entries I made
do not generate graphs. For all the entries other than the one I mentioned,
there is the Show/Hide link for the graphs, but there is no graphic. There is
one .png file in each checkresult, roundtrip and updown in
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\SA\day (hour, week, month, year as well). There is one .db
file in c:\rrdtool\RRD-data\checkresult (roundtrip and updown as well). And
yes, there are backslashes at the end of all directories in the RRD Tools setup
in SA. Lastly, I did redo the steps on pages 6 – 9 when I added more checks.

I hate to wipe out whatever work I have already done, but since I have followed
the instructions to a tee. There is apparently something wrong that goes beyond
following the steps in the manual. Please advise.

Thanks,

You need to generate the files. Go into the SA setup à Logging à RRD Tools à
Types then under each type generate the CREATE script. Run it, then go to the
next type and generate that script. If you want to run all three at the same
time, when you generate each script, make sure it appends the script file
instead of over writing it. otherwise you will need to generate the script, run
it, then generate the next script, and then again for the 3rd type. Once that
is all done, go to the Graphs section and generate the GRAPH script, and run
it.

Thank you,

Hi Dirk,

I upgraded to the beta version (v7.0.2546). I still have the same issues:

In c:\rrdtool\RRD-data\ there are no files in the checkresult, roundtrip and
updown subdirectories.

In c:\inetpub\wwwroot\SA\ subdirectories, there are no files.

Therefore there are no graphs on the webpage, nor is data being kept in .db
files.

Should I delete SA folder under c:\inetpub\wwwroot, as well as the c:\rrdtool
folder and start over, or are there other steps that I can take to fix the
RRDtool/SA implementation I am working on?

If you upgrade an 7.x install to the latest 7.x beta, it will upgrade using the
existing "stuff". No need to delete anything

Thanks Dirk,

Two questions. Will the installation package upgrade my current Servers Alive,
or do I need to uninstall the current version first? Will there be any need to
delete the files/directory structure of the c:\rrdtool\ and
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\SA\ directories after the program is upgraded?

Thanks,

Hi,

I also have set up RRD tools as per the documentation, and have enabled output
to the default page, and logging for all entries. However, the .db files were
not created in each of the subdirectories under c:\rrdtool\rrd-data, and the
.png files were not created in the appropriate subdirectories in
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\SA\.

I do have the ServersAlive webpage with the status of each of the servers I am
monitoring, but no graphs, just the current state of the servers. Version info
from the header of the page is:

V1.50 - Report Dated: Wednesday, September 19, 2012, 12:01:44 PM
This report based on Servers Alive version: 7.0.2505, running on
computer:NAZ-AS-09.
Monitoring started at 9/19/2012, 9:31:52 AM. Number of cycles monitored: 18.
This cycle started at: 9/19/2012 12:01:42 PM

I am running the Enterprise version of SA, having purchased the license. If I
understand this email thread correctly, I need to upgrade to the beta version
(7.0.2546) of SA in order for the logging via RRD tools to work correctly?

Thanks,

Lau's document assumes a more recent (beta) version, so update to the version
on http://beta.woodstone.nu (http://beta.woodstone.nu)

Also did you enable RRD for some of your entries? (logging tab of each entry)

Hello,

I’m testing RRD Logging in Servers Alive v 7.0.2505 (enterprise license).

.bat script generated with setup dialog boxes contains only lines to create
directories, and no rrdtool.exe command line:

I followed Lau Daniëls’ document found on www.woodstone.nu
(http://www.woodstone.nu).

Is there a bug or do I done things incorrectly?

Best regards,
