Realy splitting them is not realy possible.
In the new version however you can run the service for the checks and see
the updates via the none-checking GUI (same gui with a parameter -> can be
called via the remote icon tool).

Having a DB opposed to an entriesfile (like now) won't speed-up things.

How's the separation of the Check engine from the GUI on the road map? Or is
that no longer an issue. I haven't deployed 7.2 yet so I cannot speak to
potential improvements in that area. Maybe use of a DB for the host check
list has solved the slow updates while a check cycle was active?
