Hi Oussama!

SAM creates copies of files on archive media based on policies.

If you want to create an additional copy for files, you should tell
SAM to do this in the /etc/opt/SUNWsamfs/archiver.cmd file. This will
create additional copies, not a duplicate of your media.

If you want to re-new an existing copy because you guess the archive
media is getting bad, you can mark the media for recycling using the
chmed(1M) command and run the recycler which will trigger rearchiving.

You may also use the rearch(1M) command to flag some files for re-
archival together with chmed(1M) to mark the media as read-only.
Of course you have to know which files live on the media. You can get
this information from the file system using the sfind(1) command or
you can take a look at your archiver logfiles. Running sfind puts some
load on your server because you have to run over the whole file
system. Running grep(1) on the archiver logs is not that expensive but
looks at historical data, too and may show you files that have already
been deleted in your file system.

If your archive media is unreadble and you have off-line files on this
media which should be rearchived, use the -rearch_stage_copy directive
in archiver.cmd(4) to use another copy for staging - you have at least
two archive copies of your files, don't you?

Regards, Dirk
