Subject: Bunnik reaults

Hello SAMmers.

As I told, yesterday was Bunnik meeting, and as I also commented, a new SAM interface was shown. To be honest: two. The first can be connected only between SAM and PC. The aim is to transfer programs from and to a PC harddisk. Thats the point, Nomad (Stephan) comes in. Stephan presented yesterday a 5 MB 16 colour reduced PC Mpg file running at the SAM from a harddisk (hey presto, a Record has 800K in size... ;-)

This is quite interesting in fact!

Does this allow SAM to treat the PC as an external drive? What sort of transfer speed? Will it work with BDOS - and with an existing Atom powered drive (ie - a CF powered one....?)

Very importantly - as a SIAC owner... is the interface big? :)

The reason for Quazar access is now to get the most of the sound which was running with the video file. Stephan will also write the necessary transfer files and he hopes to have them ready to the SPC/Joyce meeting on October 4th, near Cologne.
British readers will notice, that there are a lot of meetings on the "continental" side....
Alan Miles always commented on how more seriously "the contintent" was for people who really pushed and where interested in their computing... I think of some of the great ideas i've never seen.... Edwin Blinks ideas on networking SAM and Acorn machines, The ESI sound interface, and others ....

The other interface makes use of a one to one connection to the Spectrum bus. With it you can do the same as above, but you have to add the Spectrum<>PC interface described in a lot of the SPC Magazines (WoMo mag, yes its mine! Since 1990!). A fine side effect is, that you can use a Kempston Joystick interface at the bus which works fine, we have tested it yesterday while playing "Raid over Moscow". Also Currah Microspeech is in my imagination and has to be tested. It´s amazing....
This is certainly facsinating stuff!!! I wish I could make it "over there" some time :(

Maybe good news too. Martijn Groen works (again) on a Windows orientatded desktop for the SAM and Robert van der Veeke will do the grafic. In one of Gavins first SAM Community mags I first have written about, but know it seems to keep on.
These things take time to write... but Martijn & Robert are both brilliant people - so I'm sure it'll be worth it!

Going back to Samco - I remember many people looking at SAM Wimps... and Driver 2 - which never sadly appeared - was going to be an amazing one as well.... Does anyone recall this? Cookie? Anyone else? Steve Taylor was chatting about this at some length back from a Gloucester show... (I think the one where Entropy took the piss out of Bob! :)

To David: Yes, I come to Norwich meeting!!!! However, I will bring my main harddisk and the interfaces with me, but not my SAM or a Laptop (to be honest, I have not a Laptop...). So if I can use anybodies SAM and/or Laptop there I will show whats going on. A report of the Bunnik meeting with pictures of the IFs will be in the SPC magazin (off course) and if Colin wants also in SR. The "WoMo" mag is bi-lingual (german with english short description or vice versa), the SAM sides are always in english. If interest mail me for a free mag and all informations about SPC and price of the magazines: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Consider you mailed! :)

I think Colin has at least one spare SAM he's taking to sell... perhaps he can assist?

So, that s my plot (I am in hurry, so please excuse errors in english).
Have a nice day
Wolfgang
