Producing it ourselves... I'm directing and a very good friend will be
the DP.

BTW: It's ok to use those instructions if it's for a good reason, but
they should be used sparingly. Like any rule, the trick is to know when
to break them ;-)

  
Shooting on film or video?
    

Digital video... hopefully 24 fps HD, but that remains to be seen. We're
looking at the Sony DSR500WS camera, and a couple of Panasonics.

I'm a bit jealous of you guys, I'd love to work on a movie of some sorts... I've got a BFA in video from the School of Visual Arts in New York, and I'm doing
ENG (News) camera for a living... Still one day I hope to do a little movie...
Are you shooting Digital Betacam then?
I suppose you have considered DV, and have you then considered the Canon XL-1 in frame-mode? Supposedly that can give you pretty good results as well...
Also if you take the PAL version for example you'll be very close to 24 frames...
