I saw a Sam and said "There is an 8-bit machine I want to develop for!".
Hello and welcome!
What sort of thing are you looking to write? The Sam has a very rich BASIC language, but the most interesting things are only possible in machine code. Are you already familiar with Z80 assembly language?

Or - if you're developing using an emulator rather than using real hardware directly (not that this is a bad thing, but) you may find it convenient to use pyz80:
http://www.intensity.org.uk/samcoupe/pyz80.html
pyz80 runs on a host pc, Mac or unix system; accepts text files containing z80 opcodes (using the same syntax as the Comet assembler) and outputs a disk image, which can be loaded by SimCoupe.
I've put a few bits of code on-line at
http://www.intensity.org.uk/samcoupe/mnemotech.html
which you could have a look at (they're the utilities rather than my usual demos though - scroll down to find the "Source Code" links).

Andrew
