Seriously. A 24bit palette should not be to difficult to generate, but I have yet to see anybody using 16.777.216 different colours in one go. Probably you don't need more than 256 different on screen at any time (GIF standard). I seem to remember that what you intend?! However, it would be nice to have digitized pictures in the same resolution/palette as the rest of the screen.
