Thanks.  I found the answer right after I posted in the technical manual.
It certainly seems to have started conversation, however.  So, hurrah!

Ah, for the halcyon days of this being second nature...

I was trying to explain to a co-worker how the Spectrum's screen memory was
laid out, and when I realised that I had Simcoupe on a work machine, it was
easier to knock together a SAM BASIC program to demonstrate in Mode 1.
