Well, I know it was done in wirewrapped logic chips first (a rats nest), and 
then that circuit schematic was turned into verilog and sent to vlsi for 
manufacturing. Although iirc Bruce told me they were using someone else first 
(or vlsi changed their process mid way), and they had to convert the language 
for the chip. Took him a while but eventually he had an "Aha!" moment and 
realized that if he just negated the logic, it'd work on the new system.

That's very hazy, and today sounds wrong to me, so I'm sure I'm 
misremembering/forgetting details.
