Hello samba developpers,

I need a little help. I want to configure samba with mysql as backend. I searched on google and i found some info about this subject but it seems to be not really what i nedd. I said this because i found few howtos about how to configure samba to read password from mysql database to authenticate users using pam_mysql module (see http://www.isber.ucsb.edu/~randall/personal/samba_mysql_pam.html).
Is good but not enough. I don't want shell users with different password for samba!!! I want ONLY VIRTUAL USERS (no one shell account) and all of them MUST resides in mysql database with all attributes (home directory, UID, GID, password, domain, etc).....

Also, it seems to be in cvs, another project for using samba with mysql (see http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/cvs_current/examples/pdb/). This project seems to be interesting but:
- i don't know with what version of samba must be used
- i don't know if is maintained by someone in present
- i don't know if is possibile to use just myql accounts (no one shell account)
- i don't know if support soft quota for mysql-samba accouts (different quota limit for each samba shared user account)

Google said that my problem is not well documented and in the past was some tryes about this subject.

Few weeks ago i've configured pam_mysql plugin to authenticate users for postfix smtp, and everithing was very easy and all authentications are ok.
Actually, i need a solution to do something similar with samba, but i don't know how can i do that. Which version of samba can i use? What method should be used to join samba with mysql, and and so on...

Can anybody point me to the right way? Any howto or some success stories about this subject will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Alex Pita
