Title: Problem with Samba 2.2.5: a lot of smbd processes are generated

Hello,

I use Samba 2.2.5 on a SUN V880 Computer with Solaris 8, installed as a new system about two weeks ago. Before that, samba 2.2.3 was used on an Ultra 450 under Solaris 7 for many weeks without problem. The usage of the samba service has increased a lot since the change to the new system, because some applications were changed to start from the exported file systems.

Sometimes (about two to three times a week) the samba service runs wild: old connections are still working, but new connections don't and a lot of smbd processes are started. The log file only shows the starting of the processes, no error messages. If I change the samba definition in /etc/inetd.conf to contain -d 9, I get a lot of output, but I can't find the information to cure the problem.

Can you give me some hints how to find the source of the problem or how to solve it ? Are there special patches that should be installed on an V880 ( I installed Solaris 8, 2/02 and then applied the recommended patch cluster from the Sun web page) ?

Mit freundlichen Gren / kind regards
