I have just solved the same (similar?) problem - The problem was my ipchains firewall setup - Did you specify some firewall stuff when you installed RH7.3
to fix it, I ran "lokkit" from the root prompt, and added the following to "Other Ports" under "Customise" 137:tcp 137:udp 138:tcp 138:udp 139:tcp 139:udp Theres probably a better way, But this worked for me..
