Well it's definately a missing 'feature' in the rsync protocol. As would be extended attributes and multiple data streams per file. Maybe rsync could be extended to add these metadata elements, as files on an NTFS system would need them. The problem is there is no "standard" definition of extended attributes or multiple data streams per file (although POSIX ACLs are enough of a standard to add them into Samba).
