Maybe I'm missing this - but I'm having problems setting up some file shares that are limited to certain groups. I've done countless searches on setups and on the tree connnect failed error message, and just haven't found anything that solves my problem.
I am able to create shares that are basically open to the public, but I know the security is all messed up. I have openLDAP set up, can log onto the Samba server, but when I try to set up the security, I just end up with > smbclient //Ubuntu/Staff > Enter mlb's password: > Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.28a] > tree connect failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED So I started working through the Samba checklist at http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/diagnosis.html Is there some place that walks through a file share setup. I want to create a share called "Staff" that's only accessible by members of that group. I need to know how to set that up across Linux (Ubuntu 8.04), openLDAP and Samba and also how to do the setup for Wndows clients. I would also like an easy method to turn this over to the folks - it's volunteer work for our local Boys and Girls Club.
