If I am not wrong, "nmblookup -U" connects to a WINS server, which is configured "name resolve order = lmhosts wins hosts bcast", so i think nmbd will try to find the requested name first in lmhosts, then in the wins database, and so on.
I have not said nothing about nslookup, but i think its behavior is like "nmblooup -U" (it does not use directly hosts, as nmblookup dos not use directly lmhosts, or am I wrong?)
