Answering myself, to help others.
I cannot answer any of the other questions, but this one is easy. Edit
the following entries:
lowerBound: 3000000
upperBound: 4000000
They are found in samba-master/source4/setup/idmap_init.ldif
If these are not done before provision, it is a pain to do afterward.
