Apologies if this has been discussed before I've just gotten around to joining.
Those who have an Apple Mac Dev account may already be aware that Apple has withdrawn Samba from its next major OS release due out later this Summer. This leaves a certain segment of the market who used the PDC functionality unable to upgrade or being forced on to Active Directory in order to support Windows logons. I fully understand why this is happening. What I'm wondering is has there been any talk about either Samba directly picking up this gauntlet or anyone else Mac-friendly interested in building Mac OS X Lion-compatible binaries? It could be a pretty clever end product. The maker(s) would certainly be the hero(es) of many an Apple customer who is currently dependent on the PDC functionality. We ourselves have hundreds of servers which support Windows logons thanks to the Samba integrated into Mac OS X Server. I wish I had the skills (and time) myself to implement it. It would need a fairly basic GUI and integration with Apple's Open Directory. At last we'd have Windows 7 support!
