I'm following the Samba HOWTO for CUPS printing, trying to run the 'cupsaddsmb' program but it requires the Adobe PS files. The howto says to get them from www.adobe.com, can anyone be more specific?
The files required are: ADFONTS.MFM ADOBEPS4.DRV ADOBEPS4.HLP ADOBEPS5.DLL ADOBESU.DLL ADOBESU.HLP ADOBEPTR2.PPD ICONLIB.DLL
I've downloaded the "Universal 1.0.6 English" 7.4MB winsteng.exe[1] for Windows and got all of the above files except "ADOBEPS5.DLL, ADOBEPSU.DLL, and ADOBESU.HLP" from c:\windows\system...
The "AdobePS 4.2.6 for Win9x" 1MB aps426eng.exe[2] had even fewer files.
This one should have the files for the Win9x clients:
ADFONTS.MFM
ADOBEPS4.DRV
ADOBEPS4.HLP
DEFPRTR2.PPD
ICONLIB.DLL
PSMON.DLLThe "Universal" one possibly contains the files for the WinNT/2K/XP clients:
ADOBEPS5.DLL
ADOBEPSU.DLL
ADOBEPSU.HLPPossibly you can unpack this file with "cabextract", "unzip" or "expand". If that doesn't work, you'd need to install them on a WinNT/2K/XP box once and manually retrieve them via "smbclient" accessing the "print$" share (or looking in "C:\Windows\system32\spool\driver..."
Is there a tar/zip archive of these files somewhere?
Not that I know... (legality, legality...)
Should they really be placed in /usr/share/cups/drivers
Yes.
"cupsaddsmb" grabs them there and puts them into "/etc/samba/drivers/" if you run it. "/etc/samba/drivers/" will then be accessible to the clients as the "print$" share.
Please also read my previous mail.
while the smb.conf says: [print$] path = /etc/samba/drivers
