It works editing file nsswitch.conf.

Editing host.conf is not necessary, really wins is not permitted in order
from host.conf. If you add it when you do a ping it says:

/etc/host.conf: line 1: expected service, found `wins,hosts,bind'

it does :-) IIRC you have to put 'wins files dns' in nsswitch.conf
and maybe the correct resolv order in host.conf ( wins first )
of course you have to have libnss_wins.so in /lib
Er... was that a bit short ?
