If I had a user called pquinney in the windows domain, and a pquinney in the Samba domain, things should work?? They don't in my situation...

I'll give winbind a try.

Sorry for my initial sketchy information. I thought it was enough to start off with but I was wrong.

Thanks for all your help,

Phil.

Excuse me for possibly being stupid, but is winbindd necessary for the
trust between a samba domain and a windows domain?
In one word: Yes.
How else would Samba be able to map foriegn SIDs to local UID/GIDs?

Technically it will work if the usernames map to a local user but winbindd is still the recommended solution.
