Hope someone can help. Have tried diligently all the "self-help" avenues I can find, as well as asking for help on the user forums for my distro.
Here's the situation.
Running SAMBA server on a libranet Linux 2.8.1 box (Debian based distro). Have SAMBA 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian installed and running.
Can create shares for file systems and printers that are accessible from Win XP and Win NT clients. Have been able to read/write files, and print jobs from the smb client machines. Can successfully execute all the tests in the doc/samba/DIAGNOSIS.txt file.
But I cannot seem to manage the printers from the Windows side (XP or NT). After setting up the SAMBA share printer in windows, and successfully printing, I try to access the printer's management features by opening the control panel icon representing it. The little management console tool opens up, and allows me to generate a "print test page" job, which completes succsessfully, but the window's title displays: "lp0 on linx Access denied, unable to connect". The print queue is always empty, even when there's a known print job running.
Any ideas what's going on?
I can supply the smb.conf file if that would help, but didn't want to clutter this message.
Thanks in advance, John
