Yes, you are right, in unstable exists deb-packages for Kerberos 1.3. Unfortunately, it is not possible to use this package on any stable (woody)-debain-system, because Debian switches from stable (woody) to unstable the glibc from version 2.2 to version 2.3. So you cannot use packages from unstable without updating the complete system to glibc 2.3. But, as earlier mentioned, compiling the MIT Kerberos-Libs is very smooth and without any problems on Debian stable (woody).
